The school has joined the Australia wide Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation group of schools.
Through the program the school has created an extensive Kitchen Garden Program with children using their school grown harvested food in a purpose designed Kids Kitchen.
The program has been allocated to students in Years 3 and 4 at Grovedale West Primary School and their general curriculum links through this program. Parents are welcome to support the program by helping out in the garden and kitchen with the children.
In undertaking the program the children build an extensive understanding of the science of gardening and the science of food through planting, garden maintenance, harvesting and food preparation. It enables the children to develop their literacy and numeracy skills whilst also expanding their knowledge of history and geography and global understanding through plant and food knowledge.
All students at the school benefit from the program as they interact in the garden areas and use the kitchen for cooking.
